In 1957, Hugh Everett III, a graduate student at Princeton, invented the concept of 'relative state', which would later be called many-worlds interpretation. As a result, we no longer have to worry whether Schrodinger's cat is dead or alive. Even if observations are made, the wave function does not collapse.
