Biography

Namiko Ishidate (石舘 波子 Ishidate Namiko, born September 15, 1990) is an animator from Tokyo, Japan. She graduated from the Department of Graphic Design at Tama Art University in 2013. Her 2D animation “Tayutaum" addresses the themes of oppression and liberation and was selected by the department as an outstanding graduation work and won the 3rd Newcomer Animator Grand Prize.

With an aim to immerse herself in the tradition of Japanese animation, she worked at P.A. Works and Studio Colorido as a character designer, animation director and key animator on projects including the McDonald’s campaign “My Future” (未来のワタシ, Mirai no Watashi).

In 2018, she embarked on her M.A. in the Department of Animation at Tokyo University of the Arts to create personal works that explore her experiences with facing and overcoming emotional trauma.

After completing graduate school, she joined Netflix and became the first creator of the newly established Netflix Anime Creators' Base in 2021, where she created designs and concept arts for various projects.

Since April 2022, she has been expanding her activities as a freelance animation artist.
