Biography

Alastair Clark founded Wellington Films in 2000 with partner Rachel Robey. Since 2018, it has been consistently named by Screen International as one of the top 50 independent film production companies in the UK.

On Prime Video in the UK, US and India is Karan Kandhari’s Sister Midnight, shot in Mumbai and funded by Film4, BFI and Film i Väst. It premiered at Cannes Film Festival Quinzaine, and was nominated for four BIFAs and a BAFTA.

On global release as a Netflix Original Film is Matt Palmer’s debut feature, Calibre. It premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2018 where it won the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film, going on to be nominated for five BAFTA Scotland Awards, including a clean sweep of the Best Actor category. It was released theatrically in the UK by BIFA/Curzon.

Their BAFTA nominated debut feature, London to Brighton (Edinburgh International Film Festival 2006, Toronto International Film Festival 2006) earned them the Best Achievement in Production award at the 2006 British Independent Film Awards and a nomination at the London Critics Circle Film Awards for British Film Producers of the Year. It has since been named by TimeOut London as one of the top 100 British films of all time.

Other releases include Muayad Alayan’s A House in Jerusalem (IFFR 2023, Asia Pacific Screen Award nominee) - a 4-way co-production shot in Palestine; Hope Dickson-Leach’s The Levelling (Toronto 2016, Best Writer - BAFTA Scotland Awards), Duane Hopkins’ Better Things (Cannes Film Festival - Critics Week 2008, Toronto 2008); and Justin Molotnikov’s Crying With Laughter (SXSW 2009, Best Film - BAFTA Scotland).
