Overview

Pecola Breedlove is a young Black girl growing up in 1940s Ohio who believes that having blue eyes will make her loved and accepted. Surrounded by racism, poverty, and harmful beauty standards that glorify whiteness, she struggles with deep loneliness and self-hatred as those pressures shape and ultimately damage her sense of identity and self-worth.
