The Dahms family has been running a bakery on Bundesplatz since the beginning of 1980. When Gerhard Dahms falls seriously ill, the bakery has to be sold. He dies of throat cancer. Gerda Dahms tries to get through life on Hartz IV and the Berlin food bank without losing her optimism.
