Brussels, 1568: Under Spanish rule, Regent Margaret of Parma seeks leniency, but King Philip II sends the brutal Duke of Alba. Beloved noble Egmont ignores warnings to flee, trusting in mercy. Alba arrests and executes him, and Egmont’s death becomes a rallying cry for Dutch freedom.
