"Afandi" is adapted from Xinjiang Uyghur folklore. The protagonist Avanti uses his ingenuity and wisdom to act for the working people and fight injustices, reflecting the strong love and hatred of the people. China's submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1979
